Our Team

Simon Owen teaches yoga and The Alexander Technique in and around East London. Simon says "I heard about Mat-to-Fore through my wife and her sister and I was excited to finally meet Osei and Florence. Both of them are driven by a desire to serve God through service to those at the bottom of the pile and lift them up. I was so inspired by their message that I now volunteer for Mat-to-Fore fundraising and promoting the charity. In August 2008 we visited the Mat-to-Fore site and met the people of Kotei. To see how the funds, raised in the UK, have been used to build and start a school was truly amazing. Giving the children a chance of an education will change their lives completely, this is different to giving to a big charity, this is personal, the children have names."

Jonathan Hughes is a chartered accountant with over 14 years working for a professional services firm in London. Jon is Mat-to-fore's treasurer, and his involvement came from being inspired by the ideas and plans of Osei and Florence to provide practical help to the poor and disadvantaged in the villages in Ghana.

Chris Simmonds is a Part-2 qualified architect working in South London, where he was brought up. His work mainly involves domestic extensions and conversions, commercial alterations, and some large institutional extensions. Chris attends a lively Baptist church with which he is heavily involved.
Chris says "God's given me a big heart for Africa. My long-held vision for ministry there involves using design to facilitate sustainable development, with a particular focus on the disenfranchised and vulnerable. Mat-to-Fore has provided me with a really great opportunity to explore and test this calling, enabling me to put my skills to good use by helping rural villagers who would never be able to afford professional services.
My passion for Africa has taken me to various sub-Saharan nations over the past 8 years, and having seen the way various ministries operate I can personally vouch for the integrity and commitment of those working to make Mat-to-Fore's vision a reality. I hope you feel inspired to partner with us to make a difference!"

Gareth Selby is a qualified architect who works at a leading sustainability architect's practice in London. Gareth's passion for socially aware architecture and appropriate technology led to a desire to be involved in charity works overseas, which happily led to an involvement with the Mat to Fore charity. Gareth says, "It has been a huge encouragement to see God at work in the charity as it steadily grows from strength." Outside of architecture Gareth's interests include mountains, youthwork and (of course) God, ideally all three combined!
